Custom home projects, done right.

Shawn Baucom and his crew have spent fifteen years taking on the kind of projects other contractors pass on — from finish work and custom trim to exterior repairs and the small details that finish a home. High standards, honest prices, and a lot of return customers.

Before and after — a little bit of everything.

We take on a wide mix of work. These are a few recent examples — interior refreshes, custom trim, and exterior repairs. Same approach every time: careful prep, neat work, and a finish the customer still likes a year later.

The same room refreshed — clean walls, crisp trim, a warm finish.
INTERIOR REFRESH

The ask

A family home with years of wear — nail holes, a patched leak, scuffs along the hallway, and trim paint that had yellowed. The owner wanted it to feel new without a full remodel.

What we did

Drywall patched and sanded flush, trim re-primed and finished in a bright white, walls rolled in two warm coats. Same room, completely different feeling — and a finish that'll hold up.

Custom trim work finished with care — tight joints and a clean line.
TRIM & FINISH WORK

The ask

The homeowner wanted custom trim, a cleaner line along the ceiling, and an interior that looked like someone actually cared about the details. They were tired of contractors who called the job done two coats too early.

What we did

Trim milled, cut, and hand-fit. Seams floated to a smooth finish, everything primed and painted to match. When the last piece went up, it looked like it had always been there.

A freshly repaired and painted front porch, warm and inviting.
EXTERIOR & PORCH

The ask

Soft spots in the porch decking, peeling paint on the railings, and a front entry that had seen better years. The homeowners wanted something that would welcome guests again — and last through another Virginia winter.

What we did

Rotten boards pulled and replaced. Railings scraped, sanded, primed, and painted. Trim caulked and sealed. The porch went from 'we'll deal with it later' to the first thing visitors comment on.

One crew. Fifteen years. A lot of happy neighbors.

A craftsman's hands at work — the kind of careful detail The Custom Touch is known for.

A small shop with a long list of repeat customers.

The Custom Touch, LLC is a locally owned crew based in North Garden, Virginia, led by Shawn Baucom. For fifteen years we've been handling home projects across the Charlottesville area — the kind of work where attention to detail actually matters, and where the customer is still paying attention after the job is "done."

What we take on.

Custom trim and finish work, interior and exterior painting, porch and door repair, drywall, outdoor projects, and the miscellaneous "we should really get that fixed" list that piles up in a home over the years. If you're not sure whether it's something we do, just ask.

How we work.

Easy to reach, easy to talk to. We show up when we say we will, keep your space clean while we're in it, and walk every job with you at the end. Free estimates, honest pricing, and a finish that holds up.

From first call to final walk-through.

Free estimate, same week

Call or send a message and we'll come take a look — most weeks, we're out within a day or two. You'll leave the visit with a clear written estimate: what's included, what it costs, and when we can start. No pressure, no upsell.

The careful parts, done carefully

Prep is where good work is made or lost. Surfaces get sanded and patched, seams get floated, trim gets fit tight, and every job gets the protection it needs — drop cloths, masking, dust control. This is the part customers notice six months later.

Finish, walk-through, clean up

At the end, we walk every room or every elevation with you before we pack out. If there's a nick to touch up or a line to re-cut, we do it on the spot — not on a callback. Then the space goes back the way we found it, just better.

We’ve got answers.

A wide mix — interior and exterior painting, custom trim and finish carpentry, porch and door repair, drywall install and patching, outdoor projects, and the small details that finish a home. Short version: if it involves taking care of a house, there’s a good chance we do it. Call or send a message and we’ll tell you straight.

Over fifteen years. Shawn started The Custom Touch as a locally owned, locally staffed shop, and it’s stayed that way. Most weeks we’re working for someone who either hired us before or was referred by a neighbor.

We’re based in North Garden, VA and work throughout Central Virginia — Charlottesville, Crozet, Afton, Waynesboro, Staunton, Nellysford, Lovingston, Lake Monticello, and the surrounding area. If you’re not sure, just ask.

Yes — every time. We come out, walk the project with you, and send back a clear written estimate with scope and price. No obligation, no pressure, and no upsell.

Depends on the time of year and the size of the project, but most customers hear back about scheduling within a day or two of the estimate. We’ll always give you an honest start date and stick to it.

Drop cloths down, furniture moved and covered, tight spots masked off, and dust kept to a minimum. Floors get protected before any work starts, and at the end of every day we leave the space orderly — not a jobsite.

Attention to detail and follow-through. A lot of our work is touch-ups, add-ons, and re-dos of jobs other contractors rushed. We’d rather spend an extra afternoon getting a line right than come back for a callback — which is also why so many of our customers become repeat customers.

Both. A single patched wall, a door that won’t latch, a porch railing that needs replacing — those are genuinely welcome. If it’s a job we can do in a day, we’ll tell you that on the estimate.
